Speaker 0 00:00:00 <silence>
Speaker 1 00:00:16 Hi, and welcome to the Cosmic Circle, the official podcast for the cosmic circus.com. I'm ala Ruby, and I'm so happy to be here. We've got two very special guests today, Brian and John. And if you guys wanna say hi or
Speaker 2 00:00:29 Hey, what's up?
Speaker 3 00:00:31 Hey everybody, this is Brian. I'm glad to be here. Thank you so much, John, for being here with us today. Um, I'm so excited to have you on.
Speaker 1 00:00:38 Yeah. I'm so just so happy to have you on. John Dotson, you write for the Cosmic Circus. Brian, you're obviously the site's head writer. Uh, today we have such a super special episode. We're gonna, it's July. Somehow, um, the first months of 2023 are gone. Like, uh, my mind is still blown at that.
Speaker 3 00:00:57 When did that happen?
Speaker 1 00:00:59 I, I don't know. I feel like it was New Year's yesterday. Um, and we're just gonna look at some of our favorite movies and TV shows from the year so far. And we're gonna talk a little bit about what's coming up next that we're really excited about. 'cause I know July feels like a huge month, and I know some other exciting things are coming out too. Um, so let's start with films. And John, do you wanna talk about your, you know, your, your first number five on the list of top five?
Speaker 2 00:01:27 Yeah. Well, I mean, it's been a very good year so far. Mm-hmm. As far as my first goes. One sec. I gotta pull up the document.
Speaker 1 00:01:38 I'm impressed that you have a document 'cause I was like trying and then notepad on my phone and just, it's so hard to rank things. Uh,
Speaker 2 00:01:46 My first one is called, uh, Blackberry.
Speaker 1 00:01:52 Oh,
Speaker 3 00:01:53 Okay.
Speaker 2 00:01:54 I dunno if y heard of this.
Speaker 3 00:01:56 I've heard of it, but I haven't seen it.
Speaker 1 00:01:59 The same, same.
Speaker 2 00:02:01 It, it's very much in the vein of like, uh, you know, uh, air and, uh, fla Hot
Speaker 3 00:02:11 Pet.
Speaker 1 00:02:12 Yeah. Oh,
Speaker 2 00:02:15 Petris is terrible. Don't watch <laugh>. Oh,
Speaker 1 00:02:17 No. <laugh>. I'll take that off my list then for things to watch because I forgot was
Speaker 2 00:02:23 Yeah. Is the only one that doesn't feel like you're watching, um, a commercial, the product.
Speaker 3 00:02:34 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>
Speaker 2 00:02:35 Is very character driven. Oh. Has a lot of great acting. And, uh, yeah. It's a very good movie. That's, that's my number five. Uh, Blackberry, what do you, what do you all got?
Speaker 3 00:02:52 I was trying to think who's in the, oh, it's Jay. Uh, what did, how you say his last name? Elle
Speaker 2 00:02:58 Or something like that?
Speaker 1 00:02:59 Yeah. He was a producer too on it, right? Or am I totally confused?
Speaker 2 00:03:04 I think, I'm honestly not sure. There's no, he's usually more of a comedic actor.
Speaker 3 00:03:11 Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:03:12 <affirmative>. Uh, but he, I mean, there's nothing funny about is performance. It's very grounded. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Okay. He plays kind of like, uh, like a tech, like a tech nerd on the phone. And it's, uh, oh, how do you say
Speaker 3 00:03:32 It? It sounds like it's just so out of his wheelhouse than what he usually does.
Speaker 2 00:03:35 Yeah. It's very out of his wheelhouse and he's not a really likeable performance.
Speaker 1 00:03:42 Yeah, that
Speaker 2 00:03:43 Makes sense. So, yeah, that's my number five is, uh, Berry.
Speaker 1 00:03:49 Now was that, that was a streaming movie, right? Or did it ever get a theatrical release? Yeah,
Speaker 2 00:03:53 I think it would be on band.
Speaker 1 00:03:57 Ah, okay. Because I feel, I, I feel like Blackberry Air and Tetris, it feels like they, people were talking about them at the same time. Mm-hmm. And I've lost track of what was theatrical. I think Air was, and like what actually was, yes.
Speaker 2 00:04:11 I'm not, I'm not a big fan of the genre so far because it's like, like every one of these movies, there's like a, a commercial for mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, it's like, yeah, come and buy Nike Shoe or
Speaker 1 00:04:25 <laugh>,
Speaker 2 00:04:25 Please come Cheetos. This is not, yes. It's not that kind of movies.
Speaker 3 00:04:32 My number five is a little different. Um, but I love that that is on your list. So I chose Nimona from Netflix number five. And that just come out, it did just come out. Um, review is on net, on on the Cosmic Circus, everybody. But I chose this one because, you know, um, there's a lot of great representation in this film. It is very lgbtq plus friendly. Um, it found a new home in Netflix after it was canceled by, um, Disney's acquisition of 21 Fox. It is by far one of my favorite animated movies of this, of this year. It you, if you want to feel a good movie, if you wanna cry, you wanna laugh if you want great voice acting. Yeah. The animation is a little, um, different in spots. It's not always, it's a little spotty. Um, but I absolutely love that film. And it sounds weird to put it at my number five. It, it feels like it's so low. Um, but it feels like it sets the bar for me for what's about to come.
Speaker 1 00:05:32 I, I love it. And, you know, I had, I've seen a lot of promo for it, um mm-hmm. <affirmative> just recently. 'cause like, it came out like last week, right? It was, it's super recent.
Speaker 3 00:05:41 Yeah. It came out the 30th, so it came out just a few days ago. Okay. Wow.
Speaker 1 00:05:45 Yeah. So I, I can't wait to watch it. I think it's gonna be really good.
Speaker 3 00:05:49 Yeah. So ilo, what was your number five?
Speaker 1 00:05:51 So, and, and John, I don't know how you'll feel about this. So I really liked Air. I, I went into it watching it just 'cause like, I had heard so many people talking about it, saying, okay, you know, you have to see this. So I, I checked it out once it was on streaming. Um, and it just, like, it felt like a warm hug of nostalgia. And I definitely get the, the product placement things, because it was basically a giant Nike commercial.
Speaker 3 00:06:17 And
Speaker 2 00:06:18 It's, but it's a very well-made Nike commercial.
Speaker 1 00:06:21 Exactly. <laugh>. Um, and I wasn't expecting like, at, at this point. Right. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are, are basically movie stars. Like they, you, you think of them not so much as a characters, they were playing. And what I really liked in air is I felt like they slipped into the characters a little bit more. And like, I, I wasn't thinking of them as the actors. I was thinking of them as, as Sonny Vaccaro. And, and the other guy whose name is, is escaping me right now. So I really liked that and enjoyed that.
Speaker 2 00:06:50 And what's her name, name? Uh, <inaudible> his mom.
Speaker 1 00:06:55 Yeah. Yeah, I know who you mean. Oh, is it? Um, he's
Speaker 2 00:06:57 Incredible. And it, she was very good.
Speaker 1 00:07:00 Viol. Was it Viola Davis?
Speaker 3 00:07:02 Viola Davis. Viola Davis. Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:07:03 She's very, very good.
Speaker 3 00:07:05 I, I was just gonna say that I'm not huge on like, on sports movies. And this for me fell into a sports movie. But the moment I saw the trailer, I think it was for Gardens of the Galaxy Three. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, or, or maybe it might've been Aman and the was, but whenever I saw that trailer, I was actually like, sobbing, washing this trailer and just thought like, wow, I need to see this movie. And I went home and told my mom and I was like, you're gonna have, you're gonna wanna see this movie. And she goes, well, I'm not big on sports movies. And then she went and saw Ant-Man the next day and she was like, wow, that movie looks amazing. So the one thing that sucks about the film, there was no, there was no release, like in the theater. There was not like a long window. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 00:07:41 <affirmative>.
Speaker 2 00:07:42 Yeah. I mean, it's not really a sports movie though. It's kind like Yeah, like a, like a management.
Speaker 1 00:07:48 Yeah, exactly. Right.
Speaker 2 00:07:51 Business management, marketing. Yeah, it's good. Um, Matt Damon is very good in it. He gives a speech in the film mm-hmm. <affirmative> that like, might be one of his best scenes of any of like, his entire career. Didn't
Speaker 1 00:08:05 Somebody copy that speech? And I don't reremember. It was like, some, some politician copied it, I remember. And the filmmakers were upset. Did they? Yeah. I don't, I don't remember all the details. It was just like the glimpse of a headline I had seen, but it obviously got traction.
Speaker 2 00:08:20 I'm scared to ask. Was you That was,
Speaker 1 00:08:23 I don't know, <laugh>, I'm kind of scared too, but I'm
Speaker 2 00:08:25 Very scared to ask
Speaker 1 00:08:27 <laugh>.
Speaker 3 00:08:28 I think that it's also, you know, a testament to Ben Affleck's directing capabilities. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. 'cause I know that he's done a few movies now and it seems like every movie he does is just really well put together. And the only other one that's coming to mind is Goodwill Hunting. But I know there's other films that he's directed.
Speaker 2 00:08:46 Well, he didn't direct Goodwill Hunting.
Speaker 3 00:08:49 No, no. He
Speaker 1 00:08:50 Wrote it, right? He wrote Goodwill Hunting. Yeah, he did.
Speaker 2 00:08:53 You're about that. Yeah. It's very good though.
Speaker 1 00:08:56 Well, he had another movie this year and I think, um, and I, I remember that people didn't like it as much. And like, the contrast between Air and this other movie was like, so Stark.
Speaker 2 00:09:09 Oh. Um, hypnotic.
Speaker 1 00:09:11 Yes. That's it. And it, it got a theatrical release, right?
Speaker 3 00:09:14 Are you talking about The Flash? No,
Speaker 1 00:09:16 I'm just kidding. No, no. Not that <laugh>. I think you're right. I think it is Hypnotic.
Speaker 2 00:09:20 Yeah. Uh, I've never seen it. Uh,
Speaker 1 00:09:23 Did he direct that one too? Or?
Speaker 2 00:09:25 No, that was, uh, Robert Rodriguez.
Speaker 1 00:09:28 Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It's so interesting, the consistency and what, um, just what things will actually take off and come together as far as story. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and, and film. All right. So Brian, we're gonna start with you this time. So we've gone through number five. We're gonna go to number four. Um, what's number four in your list for the year? So,
Speaker 3 00:09:52 I have another streaming movie because I apparently didn't go to theaters enough this year.
Speaker 1 00:09:57 <laugh>, which is weird 'cause I know you've gone a ton.
Speaker 3 00:10:01 I have gone a ton. And you know, there's, there's some films on that I liked that are not on here because I was trying, I was trying to think of like, how do we categorize these? Like, what is making it my favorite? You know, I like Little Mermaid that's not on this list, you know? You know. Oh, I know. I'm sorry. And, and the Wasp
Speaker 2 00:10:17 Yeah. I was just saying it's not on my list,
Speaker 3 00:10:19 Right. Because it's a good movie, but like, how do you quantify the best? So for this one, I chose because it's probably some of the best action I've seen this year. I picked Extraction two, um, just for the one scene alone in the prison where it's like the one extended shot. I was in awe of that scene. And I think that, like, you could tell that the director was like an action choreographer. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and, and like a, like a stunts person prior to this, because I was such at the forefront and I loved it.
Speaker 1 00:10:50 And I'm gonna jump onto that 'cause I'm, I'm next anyway. And I'm an extraction too, is actually also number four on my list, even though it was streaming. And I, I love what you were saying about Sam Hargrave, and you can tell he comes from such a, you know, action background. And I think, and I might be wrong, I think he originally stepped in, he was a stuntman on John Wick at one of the John Wick movies. Or am I confusing him with someone else?
Speaker 2 00:11:15 I think you were correct.
Speaker 1 00:11:17 Yeah. And then like, his whole career kind of blossomed after he stepped in, um, when another actor unfortunately passed. Um, but Extraction two, like, this is just like Chris Hemsworth, he is an action star. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And like, you know, I, I think of him as Thor, but watching Extraction the original movie and now Extraction two, it just like blows my mind how much he fits into that role. So much more. Sure. There's the comedy bits, but like, I don't know if you remember like, the classic movies from like the nineties and early two thousands, just like Action without a franchise. This feels like it to me.
Speaker 2 00:11:51 Um, I say that sequence is incredible. Mm-hmm. How long does that go for? 45 minutes. It just doesn't stop.
Speaker 3 00:12:01 Yeah. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 00:12:04 It goes from a mm-hmm. Helicopter It, so yeah. Nobody would follow you for putting that number four.
Speaker 3 00:12:16 And like, there was this one shot specifically, they're in the basement of the prison. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And the camera like, goes underneath Chris Hemsworth as he's like doing, like, he's like swinging his, his gun around. And like, that was just so seamless. And like, you pretty much know that that's probably where a break is somewhere. But it, you can't tell where it is. And I was just like,
Speaker 2 00:12:37 And he's on fire. He's on fire at one point.
Speaker 3 00:12:40 Yes.
Speaker 2 00:12:41 Like his arms and everything on fire. What, how it's, yeah.
Speaker 3 00:12:46 And you know, Sam Hargrave is also a stunt coordinator for, like, I, when I was writing my review for this, it was Avengers End Game, Avengers Infinity. Mm-hmm. War Deadpool two, atomic Blonde, which Atomic Blonde is one of the best action films that I have ever seen. Yeah. If you haven't seen it, you have to like, he's really good.
Speaker 1 00:13:04 I think so from what I was reading, I think, so this whole, um, the whole prison scene, like that 21 minute sequence mm-hmm. <affirmative> had actually been inspired by Tom Cruise and like, really the, the Mission Impossible, impossible Sequences. 'cause they're like, so like, there's just one camera. Right. And I think that was, from what I was reading, that was like the whole story behind that particular shot. 'cause there was one in the first one too.
Speaker 3 00:13:29 Yes. It reminds me of the Daredevil scene, you know, where like Yeah. The,
Speaker 1 00:13:33 The
Speaker 3 00:13:33 Prison one. Everyone thought it was like, everyone thought that was so cool. Like the hallway scene in Daredevil, it felt like it was so unique and you can't, you can't beat that. John, what's your number four?
Speaker 2 00:13:42 Mine is, uh, they all have Michael J. Fox story.
Speaker 3 00:13:48 Oh, okay. Okay. So
Speaker 2 00:13:51 I don't know if they, whoever's like, uh, whoever's listening to this mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, I have a disability documentary, very inspiring. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> is like a, what condition does he have? Like a
Speaker 1 00:14:08 Parkinson's, I think.
Speaker 2 00:14:09 Yeah. Parkinson's. So not only is it like a detailed recount mm-hmm. <affirmative> like entire career.
Speaker 3 00:14:18 Sure.
Speaker 2 00:14:19 It also shows the strength he went through mm-hmm. <affirmative> even after his, uh, diagnosis.
Speaker 3 00:14:27 Okay. So he,
Speaker 2 00:14:28 So he was like diagnosed like, I think around nine three and nine four. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> sounds about right.
Speaker 1 00:14:37 So like, the height, almost the height of his, his career. Right. Yeah. He
Speaker 2 00:14:41 Was very of his career. And, uh, in the midst of that, he didn't tell anybody about it. And he kept pushing and making films and making like, uh, TV shows and, uh, I ways to hide it and not talk about it. And his personality mm-hmm. And his characters. And it's very well documentary that shows just how charismatic he was. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> and still. And so is like, even with, with the, he's got, it's just, um, amazing how much his personality Bill Shine signs we walk through, through the condition mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And then 2023, it's over. Mm-hmm. Think it's gonna be my <inaudible>. Yeah. That's, that's, that's my number four.
Speaker 1 00:15:38 That's still on my watch list. I know. I think it was on Apple tv. And I think, you know, you're, you point out the fact that he is like, he's been such an advocate for this, right? He's been such an advocate for research and all this. And I think from what I've seen of the, the movie like trailers and stuff that really comes through in it. So I'm excited to watch it. He does.
Speaker 3 00:15:57 I'm very excited too. I have not, I don't even know if I've seen a trailer, but I do remember that Vic was very excited about it. And I thought that, like, what is a better way than to like, to get awareness, you know, than to, to share your story when you have a platform and you can use it.
Speaker 2 00:16:11 Oh. And, and bear in mind there's like touches on many things. Like, I mean, they even talk about, uh, who was the know guy that was gonna be, uh, Marty mc. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, Eric <inaudible>. They even talk about that. Oh, wow. And they, they go through a lot. They go through a lot of different, different subjects.
Speaker 3 00:16:33 Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:16:33 <affirmative>. So it's just, um, yeah. I mean, it's really good.
Speaker 1 00:16:37 It's a short movie too. I think it's only 95 minutes, so you can, if you haven't seen it, you can watch it pretty, pretty quickly. Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:16:44 Yeah. It's very short.
Speaker 3 00:16:46 And like, what a way to like te have a, like a snapshot look at someone's like, it sounds like their whole life, you know, of just what it encompasses a person. Like that's a great case study to look at. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>.
Speaker 2 00:16:58 Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:16:59 And I guess I, I will, um, we're at number three. Somehow the time is just flying by. So I'll go ahead and, you know, kick it off. Since John and Brian, you've already been on the, the hot seat. So, and judging from what I've read online, my number three is not popular. Um, <laugh>, I really, I really liked Peter Pan and Wendy. Um, and I, I feel like it was like universally panned that I'm gonna stand by it. Um, I thought it was just like super whimsical. I liked the music. Um, and so I have a daughter and if, like, my daughter wanted to watch this movie over and over and over again, so we watched Peter Pan and Wendy like seven times. And I liked it for that too. I felt like it held her attention, whereas some other things don't. So I, I really enjoyed that movie. Um, it was kind of told with Wendy as, I guess pro and as more of the protagonist mm-hmm. <affirmative>, um, you know, the colors were very muted and it was just really, really well done. And Jude law was hook. I can't forget that. Who can't beat that?
Speaker 3 00:18:05 Um, so what you're saying is that you're single, you and your daughter are single handedly keeping that on Disney Plus, so it doesn't disappear
Speaker 1 00:18:11 Completely. And I wish I could buy it on D V D 'cause I, I don't have confidence that it won't disappear, but I don't think it's available.
Speaker 2 00:18:19 I'll add that. I'm also a defender of, uh, Peter and Wendy. Yes. Yeah. It's very, I mean, it, it does kind of meander places. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> more sad.
Speaker 1 00:18:34 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:18:35 But I love the connection Queen Hook and Peter on the story. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, what, what's the girl that
Speaker 1 00:18:44 Ever, ever, Anderson, I think she's Wess Anderson's. Is she her, his daughter? I think
Speaker 2 00:18:49 Wes Anderson's daughter. But what's gonna blow everybody's mind is that's actually, uh, the resident evil actress. Oh
Speaker 1 00:18:59 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:19:01 That's her daughter. But, uh, all, all O Ws Anderson.
Speaker 1 00:19:06 Yeah, you're right. You're right.
Speaker 2 00:19:08 And she looks exactly like her.
Speaker 1 00:19:11 So it's Mila, it's Mila Jovovich and, and Paul W. Anderson, you Yeah. Yes.
Speaker 2 00:19:16 That name. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:19:18 Oh my, you're right now that you say that. I didn't think of that. But looking at her face, I'm like, oh, she looks just like her mom.
Speaker 2 00:19:23 Yeah. Just like her mom. Just like her mom and arguably was arguably stole the, so yeah. It's very good. So I'm in, I'm in your It's a good movie. Perfect. You got nothing to apologize for.
Speaker 3 00:19:41 I gotta watch this.
Speaker 1 00:19:42 You do. Add it to your list. I know you have a long list of things to watch this year. 'cause we were talking about it before. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:19:48 I'll catch up one day.
Speaker 1 00:19:49 Um, John, do you have, do you have a number three?
Speaker 2 00:19:53 I do. And I think I'm gonna be the only one who has seen this movie. I watched it at Sundance.
Speaker 1 00:20:01 Okay. Which is cool, by the way.
Speaker 2 00:20:04 Yeah. It's out. It's called Thousand And One Heard of this at all. I
Speaker 3 00:20:11 Do not heard that
Speaker 1 00:20:13 One. I heard it, but I haven't watched it.
Speaker 2 00:20:16 Sorry. I saw 1,001. Um, hang on one sec. It is about this, uh, kid and his mom. Um, they're growing up in, they, uh, in the area of New York City. It's kind of hard to really go into wrong details about it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>
Speaker 3 00:20:38 Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:20:38 <affirmative> in the kind, pretty big. Um,
Speaker 3 00:20:42 I like the poster, like the way it's, it's kind of like classic, but then it's also like, like kind of twisted, you know?
Speaker 2 00:20:49 Well, the best way I could describe it is that it's a movie about where money comes from. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, what it means, doesn't matter who your family is. You know, I, I grew up in a, an environment where family use, you know, what you make of it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, whether it's family or, uh, you know, friends that family use five mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And it's, this is probably one of the best films of the year.
Speaker 1 00:21:21 Oh.
Speaker 2 00:21:22 So two Strong performances. Um, by, by the person that plays them on
Speaker 1 00:21:29 Tiana Taylor. Right.
Speaker 2 00:21:30 Yeah. And the son. And, uh, it was also, I believe, uh, the Top Choice by Sundance.
Speaker 1 00:21:39 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:21:40 I think, I think it was voted. Yeah. Voted Not the audience award, but like the min cut,
Speaker 1 00:21:46 Like the grand jury thing. Right. That
Speaker 2 00:21:48 Means the grand Jury. I think it was the grand jury. So very good. So go out. Very good.
Speaker 3 00:21:59 I said, I said I'm definitely gonna check this out. I mean, you, it comes pretty high. And the fact that it won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize us Dramatic is what it says.
Speaker 2 00:22:09 Yeah. Us dramatic. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:22:11 That means it must be incredible.
Speaker 2 00:22:13 It's very good.
Speaker 1 00:22:14 It had like a theatrical release at the same time of Dungeons and Dragons. Interestingly.
Speaker 2 00:22:19 Yeah. It was around March, but like, you know, I mean March we had John Ford Dragon. Yeah. Six. I mean, it was extremely overshadowed in a very good month.
Speaker 3 00:22:33 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>
Speaker 2 00:22:35 Forget about.
Speaker 3 00:22:37 Oh yeah. I can't forget about that one. There was a lot of movies that came out that month and um, it was
Speaker 1 00:22:42 Busy.
Speaker 3 00:22:43 It was, and then just before that, we had Ant-Man in February. Yeah. So
Speaker 2 00:22:48 Kantinia. Yep.
Speaker 3 00:22:49 Yes.
Speaker 1 00:22:50 We were all still recovering from Paul Rudd's awesomeness in March. I guess
Speaker 3 00:22:56 I was That's my,
Speaker 2 00:22:57 That's my number three.
Speaker 3 00:23:00 Uh, you, you both have such great number. Threes. Um,
Speaker 1 00:23:03 Brian, what's yours?
Speaker 3 00:23:05 Mine is not as, uh, clear critically acc well, I guess it is critically acclaim, but maybe it hasn't won awards yet. But I have Super Mario Bros as number three. Um, that film is again, one of the best animated films that I've seen in a while. Granted, I did not get to see Elemental yet. I will, I was hoping that I was gonna be able to see it before this podcast, but I just didn't get time. So, but Super Mario Bros. I mean, who can't love a well-produced animated film about one of the best video game characters of all time. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. It was perfect.
Speaker 1 00:23:45 <laugh>. It's so catchy.
Speaker 2 00:23:49 Awards. Nothing should,
Speaker 3 00:23:51 It's all of my nephews just walked around singing that song for months.
Speaker 2 00:23:56 <laugh>. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:23:57 They played it, they played it at my daughter's elementary school at like, ah, dance or something like that. And the kids sang it. 'cause they had all seen the movie.
Speaker 3 00:24:09 I love that. The, the thing about this film that I love is that the potential, it has to like, spring off so many other things. I mean, I know that we're headed towards Super Smash Bros. Eventually down the line. I was also shocked that I actually liked Chris Pratt as Mario. I, when they announced him. I was just like, we need to like not do this. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, it wasn't bad though. It wasn't, he was, he was. Okay. But I love this film. Number three. I feel like it's not gonna change when it comes to the end, end of the year when we're gonna do, but I might have to just do, you know, make sure that I gotta, I gotta see Elemental first. That's my, that's the only thing I'm really looking forward to. Elemental. Mm-hmm. Um, but yeah, my number three is that, so Mario Bros. The movie,
Speaker 1 00:24:50 We, we all wanna visit the Mushroom Kingdom, I think at this point. <laugh>.
Speaker 2 00:24:54 Yes. Yes. Very much so. Right.
Speaker 3 00:24:57 Not the disappointing Mario Land in, uh, the, what is it? Is it Florida? Is that Florida? Is that California? Yeah. You know,
Speaker 1 00:25:03 Is that a real thing?
Speaker 2 00:25:05 Yes. Uh, super Mario and India. It's real. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> Real.
Speaker 1 00:25:09 Oh no,
Speaker 3 00:25:11 I heard it's disappointing. It's not as good as, as people want it to be.
Speaker 1 00:25:15 Oh, no. I feel sad about that. 'cause it's, you know, there's, there's so much potential for it to be cool with like the mushrooms and the pipes. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:25:24 Oh know, man, I wanna do the Mario don't even care.
Speaker 1 00:25:27 Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:25:28 I I think that they just rolled that, that one out a little bit too soon. It wasn't quite ready for everybody. The park, you know,
Speaker 2 00:25:35 It'll get there.
Speaker 3 00:25:37 Yeah. Give it 10 years.
Speaker 1 00:25:39 So I think we went through everyone else's number three. So that means you're up for number two. Um, oh, we
Speaker 3 00:25:45 Had to go over John's Sistern first.
Speaker 1 00:25:48 Oh, I'm sorry. I was thinking of Peter Pan, but it wasn't Peter Pan. 'cause you were just supporting me with that. So what's your number three, John?
Speaker 3 00:25:56 No, he said he is number three. He's number. He is number two. Number
Speaker 1 00:25:58 Two. I'm so confused. At this point
Speaker 2 00:26:02 We're at number two. Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:26:03 I think we're at number two.
Speaker 2 00:26:05 Okay. So now we're getting to the fun part, right? Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:26:09 Yes.
Speaker 2 00:26:12 John four is my number deal.
Speaker 1 00:26:16 Oh,
Speaker 3 00:26:17 Okay. Okay. It is my
Speaker 2 00:26:18 Number deal. I went to go to a, a press screening for this back in March. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> two weeks before I came out. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, I didn't know anything about it. Mean I, I enjoyed the John League film. That makes sense. I never really porn. So the movie Star at seven o'clock mm-hmm. And gonna, and I'm thinking nine, nine o'clock mm-hmm. <affirmative> like, oh, it's o'clock. Can't wait to talk everybody about this. Its 10 o'clock at night.
Speaker 1 00:27:00 Yep. It's a long movie.
Speaker 2 00:27:03 Three hours long. And I had no idea at all. <laugh>. Um,
Speaker 3 00:27:09 It passed that quickly.
Speaker 1 00:27:10 It's a skill, you know, a testament to the skill, the filmmakers, right. Yeah. Because it was just like that.
Speaker 2 00:27:15 There are sequences and John just takes her breath away. It's jaw-dropping. It's inspiring. Uh, the camera work. There's a scene. I You haven't seen it, Brian. I'm
Speaker 3 00:27:32 Spoil it for me. It's okay.
Speaker 2 00:27:39 It's still incredible. It goes full, like ramped up on our video game. Um, point of view.
Speaker 3 00:27:47 Okay.
Speaker 1 00:27:49 It's like a top view, right?
Speaker 2 00:27:50 Yeah. It's like a top view. Like, and it doesn't and it doesn't stop. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, it just keep going and going. You ever watch a movie that like, you know, you pretentious, you don't care. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, this movie is unapologetically pretentious and I enjoy everything about it. They, they earned it. They earned it.
Speaker 1 00:28:16 They embraced it all.
Speaker 2 00:28:17 Yeah. They earned every camera angle, every, uh, yeah. It, it's amazing. It's one of the best action films ever made. Oh, wow. And ke and Ke Reeves made the major. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 00:28:33 <affirmative>.
Speaker 2 00:28:35 Yeah. Um, see it, watch it. If comes back now watching the theaters. It is, it's amazing. Yeah. John <inaudible> the war. That's my
Speaker 1 00:28:48 John, I'm curious, had you, um, watched the other John w Like had you been a fan of John Kin's franchise before coming into this? Or was, were you like <crosstalk> Express into it?
Speaker 2 00:28:58 No, I was a fan, but I didn't, like I was a fan. Like, I was a fan of extraction. Like, like I appreciate extraction. I'm not in love with extraction. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 3 00:29:08 <affirmative>. Okay. Does
Speaker 2 00:29:09 That make sense? Like, yeah. It's a great action series. This takes it to another like level. Mm-hmm. <affirmative> where, where it's no longer just like another, like action. It almost takes down the meter.
Speaker 1 00:29:31 Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2 00:29:32 <affirmative>, it almost does. There's a 40 minute action.
Speaker 3 00:29:36 What
Speaker 2 00:29:38 Minutes? There's a 40 minute.
Speaker 1 00:29:43 It's like a giant boss fight in a video game almost. Right. That's how I, it,
Speaker 2 00:29:48 It's three different parts. Like, like it starts on the road mm-hmm. <affirmative> and it goes into a building and then it like goes to and it doesn't stop. And you don't want it to quit. I mean, yeah. I could going, I could going can
Speaker 3 00:30:05 Not, not me going on Amazon and pre-ordering it on disk already, just 'cause of the, how you're talking about it. <laugh>,
Speaker 1 00:30:11 When does it come out Is my que because isn't it, it's still in a couple of theater.
Speaker 2 00:30:16 Yeah. I think it's gonna be on demand.
Speaker 3 00:30:19 It is. And actually I'm, it's gonna be in my house tomorrow. <laugh>.
Speaker 1 00:30:22 Brian is ready.
Speaker 2 00:30:23 It's incredible. I mean, I, I know you told me that you have not watched the rest of the franchise.
Speaker 3 00:30:30 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>.
Speaker 2 00:30:31 I mean, if you wanted three,
Speaker 3 00:30:35 I actually own all three of them. I bought them like when this one was coming out. 'cause people were talking about how great it was, and I just haven't watched them yet. And now, like, you're making me, you're making me sound like I I have to hurry up and watch all four of 'em. That might be my movie marathon tomorrow.
Speaker 2 00:30:47 No, I mean, it's okay. I mean, take your time. Absolutely. Take your time. But there's still some, it's good. No, it's got no business being <inaudible> and it, it really doesn't.
Speaker 1 00:31:01 I love that. What, what's really, um, what really sells it from what you've said for me is how fast paced it is. Because, you know, you look at a runtime and like, I, I groan if it's too long because like that second act. Yep.
Speaker 2 00:31:16 Well, three, if it
Speaker 1 00:31:17 Doesn't drag. Yeah. That's amazing. It,
Speaker 2 00:31:19 It shouldn't be three hours, but Oh my God.
Speaker 3 00:31:22 Oh, I, I,
Speaker 2 00:31:23 I I don't, I don't know why you cut out. I don't know what, I just guys watch it. I mean, like I said, I could just, I can make a full podcast. That's how I make four is
Speaker 1 00:31:40 Well, maybe we need to do a John Wick podcast. Maybe that's our, after Brian has watched them all,
Speaker 2 00:31:47 I just say, you know, I, I would, but I think number one is got a better reason for a full podcast.
Speaker 3 00:31:55 Okay.
Speaker 1 00:31:56 Oh,
Speaker 3 00:31:58 Interesting. Okay. Well then
Speaker 1 00:32:00 Stay tuned.
Speaker 3 00:32:01 Yeah, we're getting there. Um, there, so my number two is actually, it's really funny because last night when the three of us were talking in a group chat, listeners, John had guesses as my number one. And for about an hour it was, and I've sat there jumping back and forth between my number one and my number two. Um, and I settled it on this in number two. And it was literally like, seriously, right before you said that your guests and I moved it. So, um, but Dungeons and Dragons Honor among Thieves is my number two. And as a player of Dungeons and Dragons, um, granted, I did not get into Dungeons and Dragons until I was an adult, probably in the last, uh, five to seven years. This felt like you were playing a game with Dungeons and Dragons with your friends. And when I was watching, I actually felt like you could almost feel the kids, or like the adults playing above the mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Like, like, like there was like a meta to it of like, you almost feel this communication between the characters and their personalities and kind of like what I wanted, um, like, kind of like Jumanji. Yeah,
Speaker 1 00:33:04 Exactly.
Speaker 3 00:33:05 The second and the third, but like, without it actually being there. So I loved that film that I thought the comedy was hilarious. I thought the characters were fantastic. Chris Pine, I don't have to say anymore. <laugh>. Um, and, uh, oh my God. Olga, what's her name? Um, oh,
Speaker 2 00:33:23 Michelle Rodriguez.
Speaker 3 00:33:25 Yes.
Speaker 2 00:33:26 Yeah,
Speaker 3 00:33:27 She was fantastic.
Speaker 2 00:33:29 She's very good here to get in the movie.
Speaker 3 00:33:31 So that's my number two.
Speaker 1 00:33:33 I'm so glad you mentioned Jumanji because as you were talking about it, like I was thinking of the first Jumanji, right. It kind of Dungeons and Dragons gives off that vibe to me. Um, so I totally support that as being your number two.
Speaker 2 00:33:45 I, I wanna spin off movie of the, the guy that plays the, I just, that guy, he's
Speaker 1 00:33:54 Zinc,
Speaker 2 00:33:55 Funniest character of the entire film. I like, it's intentional, but it's like also not, I dunno, it's hard to explain. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, but yeah, he's great in the Drum.
Speaker 3 00:34:09 He was the guy from um, um, Bridger.
Speaker 1 00:34:11 Right? Bridger. Yep. And they talked about him being James Bond. I don't know if he's still up for it.
Speaker 3 00:34:17 I like that.
Speaker 2 00:34:19 You're good.
Speaker 3 00:34:20 I like that. Ila, what's your number two? Come on, give it to us. <laugh>.
Speaker 1 00:34:24 <laugh>. So my number two, and I don't know if anyone listening to this has seen it. Um, so I really liked Ry Lane. Um, it's a a rom-com and I, I love rom-coms, I love romance. And it, so it was said in, in London, um, it takes place over a day where these two people, and I'm totally forgetting the, the, the actor's names Fall in Love. And it just like gave me that classic like 1990s rom-com feel. Um, and also made me wanna go to London someday, somehow. Um, so that was my number two.
Speaker 3 00:35:02 What, what's the name of it?
Speaker 2 00:35:03 Riley. Riley. So I watched that as Sundance.
Speaker 1 00:35:08 Okay. Um,
Speaker 2 00:35:09 Now it's not very fair in the movie because like, I didn't really care for it, but it was also like the very end of Sundance and watched like something films and I was so, I was so tired.
Speaker 1 00:35:28 Oh my gosh. Sure.
Speaker 2 00:35:30 I I don't think I gave it a fair shake at that point.
Speaker 3 00:35:34 <laugh>.
Speaker 2 00:35:35 So, um, yeah. Very good. I guy two very good leading actors.
Speaker 1 00:35:42 It's Eric and Eric and Yass are the main characters. I just can't remember the actor's names. Let me
Speaker 2 00:35:46 Yeah. They were, they were very, like, they did a, they had great industry. It was fun, fun movie. I was tired about that while on that thing wrapped up. I don't follow Tripper 11.
Speaker 3 00:36:00 <laugh> <laugh>
Speaker 1 00:36:01 30%. My goodness. That's a lot. Like, I'm a lot mentally I can't
Speaker 2 00:36:06 Comprehend. It was so tiresome. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:36:08 But wow. What, what a awesome experience too, to get to say that you, you know, you, you did Sundance, you know, it
Speaker 1 00:36:13 Like casually drop it, which is just the coolest thing in the world. Yeah. Well it's Sunday. Like Yeah. I mean, it's amazing.
Speaker 2 00:36:19 I, I dunno if I'll get invited back. I was like, I'm gonna watch everything I can while I'm here. Bad, bad choice. Don't recommend yourself. Um, yeah. So, but it's a very good movie. I just wish I was not tired with all.
Speaker 3 00:36:40 Sure.
Speaker 1 00:36:41 I understand.
Speaker 3 00:36:42 I mean, way to just casually though say that you're the coolest one. This <laugh>
Speaker 1 00:36:46 No. Like, you're not worthy,
Speaker 2 00:36:49 Uh, ala I mean, you you done some festival.
Speaker 1 00:36:53 I haven't done anything as cool as Sundance. Like I've done New York Comic-Con I've done Austin, uh, TV festival, which was, I wasn't expecting it to be amazing, but it was really fricking cool. And I can't wait to talk about it in the TV section 'cause I got to speak.
Speaker 2 00:37:08 Oh no, you've only, you've only done New York. Done. Oh my God.
Speaker 1 00:37:12 <laugh>. I know, but it's like Sundance has like, I don't, I, I don't know the right word. Prestige. Yeah, exactly. Like Comic Con is for nerds. Right. I'm a nerd. So that's where I fit in. But like Sundance,
Speaker 2 00:37:25 This was my first year and I'm ever done it so we'll back. I dunno.
Speaker 1 00:37:32 Ne next you're gonna tell us that you went to Can Am am I even saying it right? I don't know. Uh,
Speaker 2 00:37:38 I can't, I can't afford cans.
Speaker 1 00:37:41 They'll bring you there.
Speaker 2 00:37:43 Yeah. One day perhaps.
Speaker 1 00:37:47 No, I think think, I think we're at number one, right? Or did I, we're All right. So, number one, any miny, miny mo Brian? It wasn't really fair. Okay. I was gonna pick you on <laugh>.
Speaker 3 00:38:00 I knew that I was prepared. No. Um, so this one's not gonna be any shock. I feel like I, you know me pretty well by now. Yeah,
Speaker 1 00:38:08 I know what this is gonna be <laugh>. Oh, okay.
Speaker 3 00:38:11 I I wanna play a game with you.
Speaker 1 00:38:13 Oh gosh. Guardians of the Galaxy.
Speaker 3 00:38:16 Yes, it is. Guardians of the Galaxy.
Speaker 2 00:38:18 I was wrong, I was wrong.
Speaker 3 00:38:20 I loved Guardians of the Galaxy Three. I thought it was the perfect way to end the, that section of the franchise. I thought it was just a fantastic movie. I liked the, the animal conservation, you know, message about, you know, let's say The Animals. Everybody is valuable in life. I thought it was one of the perfect movies for me this year, but I'm also a giant nerd. So it had to be something like that. I mean, every movie on this list is a giant nerd film, but like, yeah, it was Guards of the Galaxy Valium three,
Speaker 1 00:38:50 And I'm going to piggyback on that. Um, you know, surprise Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Three was also the top movie I've seen this year, which I don't know if that says more about me <laugh>, um, than, than about, you know, theater, movies, <laugh>. But I really like, I, it was nice to see a good Marvel movie, right? Like, I really was excited about it. I thought it was a, a perfect sendoff. I loved finding out more about Rocket. I thought that we learned about what really motivated him. And I thought his char, like his, his backstory made sense. Um mm-hmm. <affirmative>. And I also feel like Guardians of the Galaxy Three was really special for the Cosmic Circus because I remember when everyone was like, decoding the, um, yes. The language from it and like figuring out, okay, what's in this picture? What does it mean? So it like had a very special place in my heart for that. So,
Speaker 3 00:39:44 And half of that didn't even make it into the film. That's the sad part. <laugh>. Yes.
Speaker 1 00:39:49 <laugh>. How about you John? What was your number one?
Speaker 2 00:39:51 Well, before I get to my number one, I'm about to get by you guys and probably anybody hearing this, I was Song Guardians of the Galaxy.
Speaker 1 00:40:03 That's okay. Though
Speaker 2 00:40:05 I was mixed, honestly. Um, it was the, uh, rocket being tortured that kind of made it Yep. Hard for me to get through mm-hmm. <affirmative>, although I a, the weight mm-hmm. <affirmative>, the, the last 45 minutes of the film is great, but the torture was just, and yeah.
Speaker 1 00:40:28 It was different than the, like we Nebula had been tortured prior. Right. And, and Right. And this was different because I feel like, like he was a cute animal and, you know, it, it was really intense. It was hard.
Speaker 2 00:40:41 Oh yeah. When he is like, hurt, hurt. Stop, stop. Make it stop.
Speaker 3 00:40:48 Like hits you right there.
Speaker 2 00:40:50 Yeah. So I was mixed, but my number one, yes. I'm shocked no. One Saidman Spider is my number one movie of the
Speaker 3 00:41:03 Year. That's fair.
Speaker 1 00:41:05 I'm so glad you said that. 'cause it was, it's pretty high up there.
Speaker 2 00:41:11 No, I wanna put a this because of the controversy behind it. Um, anybody who worked on the film mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you know, I hope y'all get every reward that mm-hmm. <affirmative> you deserve for the number three.
Speaker 3 00:41:34 Yes. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 00:41:36 Yep. All
Speaker 2 00:41:37 That said, amazing freaking work.
Speaker 1 00:41:39 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>,
Speaker 2 00:41:40 Every single frame of the movie is like a poster. Um, there's just, there are, there are frames in this movie where you could pause and find something new every time you watch it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>.
Speaker 3 00:41:55 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>
Speaker 2 00:41:56 And every character, every, I mean, you could have thousands spinoffs mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 00:42:02 <affirmative>
Speaker 2 00:42:03 From, from this one movie. Uh, this is my favorite movie of the year on, um, I could watch it over and over and over. I love it. It's, I don't think there's any reason for me to explain <laugh> Works.
Speaker 3 00:42:23 I will just say that while I, it's one of those films I can recognize that is a good film. It is not one of my favorite franchises. And that hurts me to even say that. And I apologize.
Speaker 1 00:42:34 But you didn't like into, you didn't like the first one. Right? You know? No, it was, and I, I don't remember your reasoning for that 'cause of the animation style. Sorry.
Speaker 3 00:42:43 Yeah, it was definitely, it was the animation style got to me and it gave me, gave me a headache so I could never make it through. And I powered through it a week a two weeks ago to watch the second one.
Speaker 2 00:42:53 Oh really? Wow. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 00:42:55 <affirmative>, I really glad you mentioned across the Spider Verse because I, I loved it too. And like, it just freeze framing. It's like you can't freeze phrase it in the theater. I'm looking forward to when it actually comes out to watch on, um, like watch on my tv. Like mm-hmm. There's just so much. The art is so incredible and I'm, I'm in awe of the animators, everyone who worked on that film because I think just it, it's incredible. Um, I can't wait to see the next one. I don't think it'll come out next year, but that's a different conversation. It won't. Yeah. It won
Speaker 2 00:43:27 Not, it won't not,
Speaker 1 00:43:29 There's no way. Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:43:31 I specifically loved, um, oh my gosh, I'm, this is how bad I Gwen, uh, Gwen Stacy's world.
Speaker 1 00:43:38 Haley Steinfeld, right? No, no.
Speaker 3 00:43:41 Well, Gwen Stacy's world, the art of her world was just so beautiful in mm-hmm. <affirmative> across the Spider.
Speaker 2 00:43:47 Yeah. It's like watercolor, like everything, like you grew, like you look in the background and you can see water mm-hmm. <affirmative> flowing down. Ah, so cool.
Speaker 3 00:43:58 So beautiful. Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:43:59 Yeah.
Speaker 1 00:44:00 It looks like the comic book covers, if I remember that correctly, in some ways. Um, or at least maybe some of the comic variations for Ghost Spider.
Speaker 3 00:44:09 I believe so. Yes.
Speaker 2 00:44:11 And I, you know, I know there's like, kind of like a debate going on over the, when the messaging of the, um, there's like a message going on in the film about whether you should, whether it's somebody you should go through something bad mm-hmm. <affirmative> in order to be great. Hmm.
Speaker 3 00:44:31 Yes. And,
Speaker 2 00:44:32 And, uh, I think there's something very interesting going on there. I hope its off <inaudible>. This setup is really intriguing and it's, uh, yeah, I really love the film. It's beautiful. It's one of just one of the best films I'll think of the year and I just hope whoever is involved with it is their, gets their due. Hey, you visual effects people. Well absolutely. Give them, give them dictations. Give them, give them my horse off
Speaker 1 00:45:09 Sick days. You know, worklife balance.
Speaker 2 00:45:13 You're not slave workers and they earned it. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>, you absolutely earned it with every single frame of this movie.
Speaker 1 00:45:24 I totally, that's why
Speaker 2 00:45:25 Ran.
Speaker 1 00:45:25 It's a valid ran. It's totally valid. Absolutely. And we're getting pretty close to time, so I think maybe we'll have to save television for another podcast. Um, which I would love to talk to you guys with and I hope we can schedule it. Um, but I do wanna talk about other movies that you're looking forward to this year. So, um, I'll, I'll start, I guess. So I'm really looking forward to two things. I wanna see Indiana Jones because I haven't yet. I know it just came out mm-hmm. <affirmative> and I, you know, I'm, I'm willing to put aside the, um, like the uncanny Valley Nest stuff over being de aged from the trailer. I, I don't know anything more than that, but that was in the trailer, so I feel like that's not a spoiler. And I wanna see Barbie. It just looks so freaking cool.
Speaker 3 00:46:11 I'm on that Barbie train. <laugh>.
Speaker 1 00:46:13 Yeah.
Speaker 2 00:46:14 I think we're all on the Barbie train. I think there was like, kind of like a, a play fight. Yeah. You should review it
Speaker 1 00:46:23 <laugh>. So,
Speaker 2 00:46:24 Yeah. Um, yeah, I'm definitely on the Barbie train.
Speaker 3 00:46:28 I, I think that they just made it so, like, it looks so appealing to everybody. It has the comedy, it has the, if you grew, I grew up with two sisters, so my Power Rangers were always getting married to their Barbies in, unfortunately, they had to live together in the Dream House Dream. So like,
Speaker 1 00:46:42 Unfortunately, I mean, that's amazing for the Power Rangers. Come on. It's like all pink.
Speaker 3 00:46:48 Uh, you're right, you're right. <laugh>. But like, you know, so like, I feel like this appeals to every single person in some way or some form that they like, they really to try to, to make it as open-ended for as much audience as possible. What about you John? What's your, what are you looking forward to?
Speaker 2 00:47:04 I put like six sit down in my list.
Speaker 1 00:47:07 Let's hear 'em.
Speaker 2 00:47:08 Fortunately I can't look at it. Um, I know people who are, uh, hearing the podcast can't see right now, but I have a dog in my lap and the dog just with its tail knocked my mouth off the table.
Speaker 1 00:47:23 Oh, no. <laugh>.
Speaker 2 00:47:26 Yeah. So Barbie. Oppenheimer.
Speaker 1 00:47:30 Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. That's gonna be a big,
Speaker 2 00:47:33 Um, part two. Oh. Looks, I'm dying to watch part two. There's a movie. Uh, you all know.
Speaker 1 00:47:43 Oh, I
Speaker 2 00:47:43 Know who that is. David.
Speaker 1 00:47:46 No, I, I don't think I know I'm looking it up.
Speaker 2 00:47:49 He directed like, um, the Girl with the Dragon that you
Speaker 1 00:47:52 Said. Oh yeah, yeah, I know who you mean.
Speaker 2 00:47:54 Like he, he made a how Netflix series about the Serial killers Mine Hunter. He did Hunter.
Speaker 1 00:48:05 Okay. He's got another one coming out. David Fincher. He's got, yeah,
Speaker 2 00:48:09 It's called The Killer coming out like in November of um, what else? Killers of the Flower Moon.
Speaker 1 00:48:17 Oh yeah. Okay.
Speaker 2 00:48:19 That's gonna be great. I a great year
Speaker 3 00:48:23 <laugh>.
Speaker 2 00:48:24 So,
Speaker 3 00:48:25 You know, on, on top of Barbie, I have a few, unfortunately, obviously the Marbles because um, yes, I was a fan of Captain Marble. I was a fan of Oh
Speaker 2 00:48:34 Yeah. In the Marbles. Yeah, I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 00:48:36 Like the, the, the three main cast members here are gonna steal the show and I hope that this film makes a billion dollars. I wanna see. So that one's at the top of my list. Um, I'm excited to see Wish, I think that it looks really good. Mm-hmm. I feel like that's kind of like a return to, to some quality Disney and hopefully that that one gets the recognition it deserves Wonka.
Speaker 1 00:48:59 Yeah.
Speaker 3 00:49:00 I think the, the biggest one for me that like I'm thinking I'm really excited of more recently is I'm excited to see The Haunted Mansion. I think it's gonna be really good. I hear that it's aiming a little for a little bit older children, so it's gonna be like funny but also a little tadd more scary. Mm-hmm. <affirmative>. Um, so I'm excited for that one.
Speaker 1 00:49:16 I wanna say about Wish there was. So I, today I went and I saw Ruby, um, it would be Gilman Teenage Kraken with my daughter and one of her friends. And you know, there are all these trailers and stuff before the movie and they're all typically kid oriented trailers because it's a kid's movie. So both of the girls that I was with, like were on the edge of their seats watching the Trailer for Wish. And I just thought that was really cool 'cause that like, I think it's gonna be a hit based on that.
Speaker 3 00:49:42 Absolutely. Nobody mentions Alchemy. No, nobody.
Speaker 1 00:49:46 Oh well is it coming out this year? Did we all just forget about it? And Blue Beetle? Oh my gosh. I'm gonna mention Blue Beetle because Blue Beetle is gonna be amazing.
Speaker 2 00:49:56 I'm so indifferent on DC right now. Mm-hmm. I mean, I know Aman got the Momoa, so I mean they got that going for it, but, and I'm just, yeah, I dunno. I'm rooting for DC but at the same time I'm just like, guys, how many times y'all going to make a decision that makes me not wanna watch a movie? Mm-hmm. <affirmative>
Speaker 3 00:50:21 <laugh>. Absolutely. I will say I'm looking forward to Craven though, because that poster alone just <laugh> is nice to look at. So that, that's my, my wild pick.
Speaker 1 00:50:33 I feel like a lot of people suddenly became interested in Craving the Hunter after that movie, based on what Twitter was saying, or after that poster, based on what Twitter was saying,
Speaker 2 00:50:43 The Hunter is gonna be wild, you know?
Speaker 1 00:50:45 Yeah,
Speaker 2 00:50:46 No, I dunno if it's gonna be a good or a bad Wild <laugh> that's gonna, it's gonna be wild.
Speaker 1 00:50:52 It's gonna be better than morphous. I'm, I'm, my fingers are crossed. I'm hoping now. Um, there
Speaker 2 00:50:57 Was nothing, there's nothing better than Morphous guys. Nothing
Speaker 1 00:51:02 Then from our site would be so happy to hear you say that.
Speaker 2 00:51:06 How dare you. My Mors <laugh>
Speaker 3 00:51:11 Mors has Matt Smith. Okay. And anything with Matt, Matt
Speaker 1 00:51:13 Is
Speaker 3 00:51:14 Gold.
Speaker 1 00:51:14 Brian is a huge Matt Smith fan.
Speaker 2 00:51:17 Hey man, Mattius, it's, you know, the best scene of the entire decade.
Speaker 3 00:51:26 Absolutely.
Speaker 2 00:51:27 Absolutely. <laugh>. Oh,
Speaker 1 00:51:29 And I think that's a perfect note to end this podcast on. It has been a pleasure talking with you guys about the best movies, um, so far of 2023 in your rankings.
